DHX MEDIA’S CAILLOU AIRING NATIONALLY ON ICI RADIO-CANADA TÉLÉ

Beloved Quebec-born preschool series broadcasting in French on free national network for first time

Halifax, NS - 15 September 2014 - DHX Media, a key player internationally in the creation of content for families and children, announces that Caillou – the series about every preschooler’s favourite 4-year-old boy – has begun airing nationally in French on ICI Radio-Canada Télé. Caillou has not previously been available in French on a free national network. On ICI Radio-Canada Télé, Caillou can be found weekday mornings at 8:15am.

The iconic children’s character Caillou had his origins in Quebec, where he first appeared in a series of popular French preschool books. Debuting in 1989 as a 9-month-old baby,Caillou has since grown to become preschool phenomenon, loved by kids the world over. Caillou, the television series, first aired in 1997 and is today broadcast in more than 100 countries. Over its five seasons, Caillou has often been praised for focusing on pro-social and age-appropriate storylines that emphasize a loving family environment. Just a few of the diverse regions where Caillou is broadcast include Germany (Super RTL), Turkey (Samanyolu), Spain (RTVE), Israel (HOP), Latin America (Discovery Kids) and the US, where for fifteen years it has been a favourite on PBS, and is also a top-performing series on Sprout. Josh Scherba, SVP of Sales and Distribution for DHX Media, commented: “Caillou is a perennial Canadian brand celebrating his 25th anniversary this year, so it seems only fitting that our national public broadcaster is making this wonderful show more widely available to a new generation of French-speaking kids across the country.” As a brand, Caillou has garnered additional worldwide appeal through DHX Media’s agreements with more than fifty licensees, including Quebec-based publishing partner Editions Chouette, who have issued Caillou books in more than 50 countries, and Imports Dragon, Caillou’s master toy licensee. Caillou has also been licensed to Quebec-based Productions Logico for a live French stage show, due in 2015.
