Halifax, NS - 29 May 2009 – DHX Media Ltd (AIM & TSX ticker: “DHX”) ("the Company" or "DHX"), a leading independent international producer and distributor of mainly children’s television programming and interactive content, is pleased to announce that the CBC has commissioned a third season of the hit series Animal Mechanicals, produced and distributed by DHX subsidiaries Halifax Film and DECODE Enterprises, respectively.
A home entertainment distribution deal for Animal Mechanicals has been signed with Phase 4 Films in Canada that will commence in the Fall of 2009. Also, TG4 Ireland recently licensed seasons I and II of the same series.
Animal Mechanicals is one of CBC’s top-rating preschool shows and also scores high ratings around the world on Disney Channels in the UK and Asia; Radio-Canada, Discovery Latin America, Romania’s HOP, EBS in Korea; Al-Jazeera Children Channel and Prava I Prevodi, who acquired the title for Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro. Based on Animal Mechanicals' international success, DHX intends to pursue further licensing and merchandising arrangements.
Josh Scherba, VP Distribution said: “The Animal Mechanicals third season commission means that we will have a total of 55 episodes which is a great platform for building the brand. The show is proving to be very popular with preschoolers and their parents, and we are being inundated with requests for home video and toys. We’ll be at the Licensing Show looking to forge partnerships that will enable us to extend our offering.”
