Toronto, ON – 21 March 2012 – DHX Media, a leading international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, is further boosting its preschool slate acquiring worldwide television and home entertainment rights and North American licensing rights, to brand new Turner Broadcasting-commissioned series Ha Ha Hairies.
Turner Broadcasting holds EMEA broadcast and home entertainment rights to the live action show, which it airs on Cartoonito in 112 territories across EMEA. Made by UK producers Adastra Creative, the team behind CBeebies hit Grandpa in My Pocket which has sold worldwide, DHX Media will be debuting Ha Ha Hairies at MIPTV.
Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media said: “Ha Ha Hairies is a live action show for preschoolers and is a new series with huge potential. We have a very strong preschool offering for MIPTV which also includes the distinctive style of Rastamouse, with new episodes available, and the number-crunching Monster Math Squad adding a colourful, fun flavour to the slate. The preschool demographic continues to be competitive but we believe we have a diverse range of standout programming for international buyers.”
Adastra Creative’s Ha Ha Hairies is a 52 x 12-minute series which focuses on telling ‘moral fairytales for a modern world’ in a highly stylized and comic way. It centres around a delightful, fun-loving hairy family who live in Hairyland, where fun and laughter are the order of the day. However the lazy, jealous, greedy Boris Boo Hoo, is always out to ruin their fun, leading to hilarious, madcap, comic mayhem.
A live-action show with animated elements, Ha Ha Hairies brings a contemporary makeover to classic silent movie clowning and mime routines from the likes of Jaques Tati, Buster Keaton, Mr Bean, with a lot of music and dance to delight young viewers today. The live action cast is supported by two animated Hairy Fairies, Wiggy and Kwiff, the only speaking characters who narrate the show.
Produced by the UK’s Adastra Creative, Ha Ha Hairies is being scripted in English and Welsh with S4C as the commissioning Welsh-language broadcaster.
