Hit family series from A Stark Productions, DHX Media and Technicolor honoured by the Australasian Performing Right Association, Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners – Society, and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – TUESDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2018 – A Stark Production, DHX Media, and Technicolor are pleased to announce that the hit series, The Deep, won Best Music for Children’s Television at the 2018 Screen Music Awards, held November 19 in Sydney, Australia. The awards, which celebrate achievements in music composition for documentaries, short films, children’s television, advertising, film and television soundtrack albums as well as feature films, are jointly presented by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners – Society (AMCOS) and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC).
Winning for “The Missing” episode, from season two of The Deep, was Australian composer Nerida Tyson-Chew, who recently also won a Musical Excellence Award for exceptional musicianship from a female musician across any genre, in the 2018 Women in Music Awards.
A Stark Production’s CEO, and Executive Producer of The Deep, Avrill Stark, said: “It is an absolute honour to have the music composition of The Deep acknowledged and recognised in the industry with this award. The series continues to go from strength to strength with the first two seasons on-air around the world and a third season of 13 x 22 minutes recently greenlit by Australia’s ABC ME. Nerida Tyson-Chew, with her outstanding talent, has done an incredible job with the music composition for the series that beautifully complements the storyline and animation of The Deep.”
Nerida Tyson-Chew, added: “What a privilege to be scoring the music for The Deep. From expressing the emotions of an exhilarating ride with manatees to the terror of coming face-to-face with a sea-dragon, combined with evocative discovery of the mysteries and mysticism of a hidden world, the music for each episode of The Deep has the powerful role of riding the feelings of each story as if on a roller-coaster ride! The music takes us through emotions with twists and turns and driving action moments are balanced with feelings of mischief and delight, and at the core of each show is the heart-felt warmth of family dynamics. It is so much fun to create these feelings in music for the series!”
About season three
The Deep follows the adventures of the Nekton family—a brilliant team of underwater explorers. With state-of-the-art technology and an unquenchable thirst for discovery, the Nektons explore the mysterious depths of the ocean, where most of our world lies unexplored and unexplained.
In season three, the Nektons are back and the Monumentials—huge creatures capable of changing the world—are waking from their long slumber! To put the giants back to sleep, Ant, Fontaine, Will and Kaiko must find the ancient city of Lemuria and harness its secret. Dangerous pirates, fantastic creatures and tantalizing mysteries will confront them along the way. But even with unexpected help from Jeffrey the Fish, they’re running out of time.
