DHX MEDIA HEADS TO MIPCOM WITH BRAND NEW PRESCHOOL PROGRAMMING

Plus new episodes of established brands

Toronto, ON – 23 September 2010 – DHX Media, a leading international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, is heading to MIPCOM with new preschool programming and new episodes of established hits.

The much-anticipated new preschool series Rastamouse (52×11’) will be launched in Cannes, and DHX will be bringing completed episodes of new art-based CGI series Pirates: An Adventure in Art (44×11’), which launched at MIPTV. Other preschool entertainment on the DHX’s MIPCOM slate includes new episodes from the third season of CBeebies hit show Grandpa in My Pocket, new episodes of Animal Mechanicals, and eco and music-centric series, dirtgirlworld. On DHX’s live action slate are newly available second seasons of drama How to Be Indie and sketch show That’s So Weird, both aimed at the tween and teen demographic.

We also have brand new seasons of our live action shows available. Rastamouse (52×11’) is a stop-motion animated series, produced by Three Stones Media with Dinamo Productions and publishers Little Roots for CBeebies in the UK. DHX Media is handling worldwide television rights (excluding UK) alongside the worldwide l&m rights.

Based on the books by Michael De Souza and Genevieve Webster, Rastamouse is a show with positivity and fun at its core. The main character, Rastamouse, together with Scratchy and Zoomer, make up the Easy Crew; a crime-fighting, mystery-solving, special agent, reggae band. Redemption not retribution is their motto, as the group set about helping the baddy rebuild their life ‘making a bad ting good’.

Pirates: Adventures in Art is a CBC commission produced in CG animation by DHX Media and aimed at 4-6 year old’s. The series teaches kids about art history and inspires them to get creative. Avast, ye art lubbers! Prepare to raise anchor and set sail with the artsiest and craftiest crew of rollicking rogues ever to sail the Seven Seas! Princess Cleo, the rightful heir to the throne of Chroma, determined to stop Conformia from destroying the world’s great art treasures, has joined Leo and First Mate Fresco aboard the trusty Pirate ship, the Mona Lisa. Together they ingeniously use the art techniques they learn about on their travels to avoid capture and save the day.

Heroic Film Company’s How to be Indie, aimed at tweens is created by writer Vera Santamaria (Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Latest Buzz and Naturally Sadie) and Heroic executive producers John May & Suzanne Bolch for YTV. The series also airs on Disney Channel in the UK. How to be Indie is a comedic live-action series which is told through the eyes of 13-year-old Indie as she juggles the traditions of her South Asian family and her Western lifestyle.

That’s So Weird! is a live-action sketch comedy series produced by DHX Media for YTV. Featuring an ensemble cast of seven young, talented sketch players the series provides a weekly slice of the outrageous and bizarre programs generated by the teen-operated network So Weird TV. From Depressi High and Really Smallville to the other ultimate fighting, Ultimate Food Fighting – So Weird TV has it all.
