DHX MEDIA ACQUIRES SHEZOW! FROM MOODY STREET KIDS AND KICKSTART PRODUCTIONS, INC.

New animated comedy created by Obie Scott Wad

Toronto, ON – 1 April 2011 – DHX Media has acquired worldwide TV and l&m rights (excluding Australia) to new animated comedy SheZow! on the eve of next week’s MIPTV. The 52×11’ animated comedy, which received development and investment funding from Film Victoria, is created by show runner Obie Scott Wade and produced by Australia’s Moody Street Kids and LA-based Kickstart Productions for Channel 10. It has also presold to ABC Australia.

Aimed at 8-12 year olds, SheZow! follows the exploits of 12-year-old Guy Hammon who fancies himself as an extreme dude with his own macho catch phrase, “It’s a GUY thing.” One day he finds a ring that belonged to his late Aunt Agnes; a ring which transforms him into a superhero. Pretty cool, huh? Well, under any normal circumstance it would be. But the ring that gives Guy his super powers was only meant to be worn by a girl! Super Embarrassing!!! Now, whenever danger is near, Guy transforms into SheZow!, whether he likes it or not. He’s still a boy; trapped inside a crazy female superhero costume with big hair, high heeled go-go boots and powers like super strength and She-Riffic speed (totally cool!) and feminine intuition that tickles his tummy (totally weird). Whether winning the war on Tara (an evil villain) or testing out his new powers, Guy keeps his true identity a total She-Cret.

Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media, said: “The way we see it every super hero has a cross to bear, and in the case of our hero it’s having to dress like a girl! SheZow! perfectly captures the comedy potential in this scenario with insightful humour that will appeal to both boys and girls.”
