'GABBA GABBA' BACK-A

April 28, 2008 -- 'YO Gabba Gabba," the hip-hopping kids show that has made a splash with some twisted adults too, is coming back.
Nickelodeon renewed the popular pre-school series for a sophomore season - with new episodes going into production next month, in time for the fall debut.
" 'Yo Gabba Gabba' may not perform as well as [Nick's] 'Dora the Explorer,' but in so many other ways it outperforms that show in terms of downloads and great press," says Nickelodeon animation president Brown Johnson.
"Yo Gabba Gabba" is built around DJ Lance Rock (Lance Robertson), a robot and four "friendly" monsters - Foofa, Muno, Brobee and Toodee - all wrapped in a blanket of contemprary music (hip-hop, pop, New Wave, you name it). How eclectic is this show? DEVO co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh is featured in a regular segment, "Mark's Magic Pictures."
An upcoming episode (May 23) features musical guests The Shins, who'll perform an original song, "It's OK, Try Again." "This show takes a lot of risks," says Johnson. "It doesn't look like anything else out there."
