DHX MEDIA SECURES DEAL IN BELGIUM
VRT-KETNET TAKES TRIO OF SHOWS
Halifax, NS – 29 May 2013 – DHX Media, a leading independent creator, producer, distributor and licensor of mainly children’s entertainment content, has sold three of its key kids’ shows to leading Belgian broadcaster VRT-Ketnet.
The multi-property deal includes 52 x 11′ episodes of the brand new DHX Media series SheZow, seasons one and two of CBC-commissioned show Monster Math Squad (52 x 11′) and season one of Martha Speaks (40 x 15′).
SheZow, (52 x 11) which follows the topsy-turvy life of a superhero boy has recently been picked up by Lagardère Active TV Channel Division to air on Canal J in France as well as going to Italy via a five year deal with Switchover Media’s kids’ channel FRISBEE, as previously announced. The show is currently in production and is created by showrunner Obie Scott Wade and produced by Moody Street Kids and Kickstart Productions Inc. along with partners Film Victoria and Vision Animation. DHX Media has worldwide (except Australia) TV and licensing and merchandising to the show.
Produced for CBC and SRC in Canada, CG animated (52 x 11) show Monster Math Squad stars loveable monsters that help children develop formative math-related skills. The show is created by Jeff Rosen who also created the DHX Media shows Poko,Animal Mechanicals and Bo on the GO. Both seasons have also been sold to PCCW’s now TV channel in Hong Kong.
Martha Speaks (40 x 15’) is a language-centered program about Helen and her talking dog Martha. DHX Media recently announced its major TV and VOD rights deal with Super RTL for Martha Speaks seasons two and three which will air this year. Aimed at 4-7 year olds, the series is coproduced by DHX Media and WGBH Boston for PBS Kids.
Based on the best-selling books by Susan Meddaugh, the series stars Martha, a beloved family dog who is accidentally fed alphabet soup, giving her the power of speech and the chance to speak her mind to anyone who will listen, often with hilarious consequences! The show has already been sold to broadcasters globally including CBBC in the UK, Nick Jr Australia, JimJam Italy and Sun TV in India.
