 Nick Hewitt
Director
Nick has crossed borders, hopped ponds, and undoubtedly filled out many “change of address” forms for the post office -- all in pursuit of his wildest animation dreams. Educated at Vancouver’s prestigious Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, he first flew south to San Francisco for a gig as an animator at Curious Pictures. Just a year later, he had directed his first spot for the Cartoon Network and was off and running. There were commercials, series, even a puzzle and a stuffed toy for the Curious Toys department, before he created the short for Cartoon Network’s groundbreaking website.
And then, he had an idea. Why not hightail it to Stockholm to check out Filmtecknarna, an enterprise whose work he’d long admired? They embraced him with loving Nordic arms, and put him to work on a variety of commercials and short form concerns, including a series of station identities for MTV Europe. It was these striking spots, a mix of cg and drawn animation, that earned him recognition, including some award nominations along the way. But these accolades could not quell his lust for knowledge, as he later left for London to grace the cg animation department at Passion Studios.
His sharp eye for illustration and design, honed by his years of Euro-immersion, were just what we were looking for. He came on as a director in 2003.
