 Mike Overbeck
Director
Every office should have a Mike. You know, the guy who keeps up with current music and can actually tell you what happened at last night’s show. The type of guy whose strong sense of social and culture satire informs his work, but doesn’t come off too heavy-handed or obvious. Sigh.
While still in college at the Rhode Island School of Design, Mike traveled to festivals with his film Atlas Gets a Drink, managing to keep the paparazzi at bay until he made his next film Tongues and Taxis. A career was born when T&T won him the Audience Choice award as ResFest 2000, Best of Show at the Kalamazoo Animation Festival and ASIFA East, Honorable Mention at Stuttgart Animation Festival, and screenings at Annecy, Anima Mundi, and Cannes.
Mike stayed in the Boston area to direct and animate webtoons dealing with current events, some of which aired on Fox News and MSNBC (Yes, even the one with George Bush rocking the mic at karaoke.) In 2002, he moved to New York, doing the freelance hustle, directing his commercial debut for Pioneer Car Stereo, until answering our siren call. He’s been with us since January 2003, working his magic for clients like MSN, Chiclets, Wal-Mart and Siggraph 2005, and things haven’t been the same around here since. We mean that in the best way.
