 Gordon Clark
Director
When the hot upstart walked into W!LDBRAIN HQ in 1996, fresh out of the trenches with Industrial Light and Magic and Colossal Pictures, he quickly became an indispensable part of the studio’s overall creative framework. Co-directing Hubert’s Brain™, our first original CG short, Gordon turned out to be a major coup. The film promptly won first place in its category at World Animation Celebration, ASIFA-Hollywood’s Annie Awards and Synthesis 8 in Belgium, in addition to scoring the Silver Plaque at the Chicago International Film Festival. The list goes on, believe us.
With credits across film, television and commercials, Gordon has helmed some of our most acclaimed work. He directed The Brothers Tiki for Nickelodeon’s Kablam! and commercials for Nabisco, Nike, Xerox, Mainstay Mutual Funds, Sony’s Animax Network and “Mirror” for the celebrated Wrigley’s Winterfresh Gum Campaign.
After creating a series of striking black and white spots for Nike, his reputation as an innovator was sealed. “Humpty Dumpty”, Clark’s hip-hop re-telling of the classic children’s nursery rhyme, was the buzz of the industry, and “Destination Moon”, produced with Wieden & Kennedy, was awarded a prestigious Silver Clio.
Though we like to believe we birthed Gordon as a fully-formed genius, he began his animation career in the 80’s, directing and animating numerous broadcast spots and national commercials for clients such as Nike, Mitsubishi, The Good Guys and the US Navy. His extensive background has served us well. No stranger to the creative process, Gordon has become a leading mentor for the pool of raw talent W!LDBRAIN is known for attracting. And the rest of the world has caught on.
One of Gordon’s many strengths, some say his defining quality, is his focus on integrity of design. Whether the format is predetermined by another illustrator or he’s implementing his own intuitive style, Gordon Clark’s unique vision always emerges. This vision has not only driven domestic campaigns, but has been sought out internationally in Japan and Latin America as well. With his work being regularly screened at animation festivals and competitions around the world, including premiere competitions in Ottawa and Annecy, it’s a miracle he’s still with us. But he’s right here, tackling more stellar projects, and keeping us from bragging too much about his Clio, Mobius and Creativity awards as a director.
