Phil Robinson
Director

A W!LDBRAIN co-founder, Phil is an award-winning director and likes to draw pictures. With over 25 years of international animation experience under his belt, he serves as a key creative for every medium at the studio – television, film, commercial, and interactive.

Currently developing a wide variety of projects, including feature films, Phil directed Hubert's Brain, an original 17-minute CG short that highlights the studio’s innovative character animation. Hubert’s Brain was named one of the “10 Best” of Annecy, won First Place honors at the World Animation Celebration in L.A. and Synthesis 8 in Belgium and garnered the Silver Plaque at Chicago International Film Festival.

A few of Phil’s other directing credits include the company’s first feature-length animated film, FernGully2: The Magical Rescue for 20th Century Fox, the carefully-crafted cel animation scene in the Universal Pictures film The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and the television series Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo.

For W!LDBRAIN’s commercial division, Phil has conceived a number of iconic campaigns. His recent creations include the superheroic Lunchables Brigade, Lamisil’s unforgettable toenail spelunker Digger, and spots for Esurance which infuse the world of online automotive insurance with some much-needed espionage and sexual tension. Phil also directed a series of commercials for Nestle, using imaginative CG artistry to bring Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory to life.

Phil’s career uniquely bridges the 2D and 3D worlds, having left Industrial Light & Magic (where he was working on the film Casper) to found W!LDBRAIN, and, previously, working with Bill Hanna to start and manage Hanna-Barbera’s principal overseas studio (Fil Cartoons, The Philippines.) Widely recognized for his ability to combine traditional animation with more modern forms of three-dimensional wizardry, Phil was honored with ASIFA-Hollywood’s Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Interactive Production for Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, produced for Brøderbund Software/Living Books.

Born in Wales, Phil holds a degree from Southampton College of Art in England. And he still has a nice accent, which manages to be charming and authoritative at the same time.
